Stuart Hughes Design has recently completed the new website for ReserveCheapHotles.com and it looks great.
We decided on a very simple clean design, and it's is very user friendly for visitors to make hotel reservations online.
Please check it out when you have a chance and let us know what think.
Thanks,

Allright! I finally got the new images loaded into the illustration section of my redesigned portfolio. The web design and logo design sections were completed first, and went faster, but now it's all up.
Check it out when you have a chance and let me know what you think.
Thanks, SPH

I finally got around to redesigning the art/design portion of my site.
A really great quote from Albert Einstein pretty much ended up becoming a big part of the overall theme or approach.
"Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler."
At this point I only have examples of web design added to the portfolio section, but will get logo design and illustration samples as soon as I can.
If you have a chance, take a look and let me know what you think.

Buy our Hendrix illustration on SHD merchandise.
We are adding new items to our store inventory, and the latest is an illustration of Jimi Hendrix by Stuart Hughes. This is a fantastic drawing done in black & white pastel on newsprint and looks great on each of these products.
SHD has many items for sale, but only 2 different illustrations are currently available. We will be adding more soon.
Have fun, be safe, keep traveling!

New Cafepress Store for SHD Merchandise!
We are proud to announce our new store set-up at Cafepress where we will be offering items for sale that are printed with original artwork and graphics created by Stuart Hughes Design.
This is brand new, so we only have a few items for sale so far, but we will be adding a lot more soon so please check back often. We started with a basic store initially just to get the feel of how it works, but I'm sure we will be upgrading to a premium (custom) store pretty quickly.
Here is our first illustration (titled "Spotlight") that is now available on several products.
Have fun, be safe, keep traveling!

I had a young local kid (I say young kid - he was 21) approach me the other day about the best way to get into the graphic arts industry. This was a bit tricky to answer since he opened the conversation with "I think I want to go to school at the The Art Institute of Dallas ... isn't that where you went?". Uh, well yes.
Now I had seen some of this kids work a few months back, and could tell right away he had the talent. He just needed some advice, and someone to point him in the right direction. After we talked for awhile, I told him a bit about my background, and ask him to give me a little info on what he'd been doing. Then I ask him what he really wanted to do. He said he really wanted to get into video editing or animation. Wow, you know what kid ... right answer! Both of those fields are super hot, and will be getting hotter over the next few years.
I told him that I definitely wasn't an expert but would help him anyway I could. Maybe write a letter of recommendation and help him with researching the best graphic design schools around the country, specifically for those two things. I know that when I was that age (man, has it been 20 yrs??), the 3 biggies were Pratt in California, RISD in Rhode Island, and the School of Visual Arts in NYC. I'd guess these are still the big 3, but will have to do some digging about the video and animation specifics.
After he left, I must admit, it felt pretty good to have someone actually asking me for advice on their future in art & graphic design. I mean, over the years I've had people ask for advice, but this kid has really got some skills and is chomping at the bit to make a living in this field. And he's from the same small town I grew up in. So this feels quite a bit different than the others. Looking back on it, I wonder where I might have ended up if I would've had a good "guide" before entering the world of graphic arts. Might have attended one of the big 3, graduated with honors and landed a great Agency job in a major metropolitan area. On the other hand, with the wrong suggestions I might have ended up as the manager of Kenny's Shoes somewhere never to be heard from again.
I hope I give him the right advice.
Have fun, be safe, and keep traveling!
