Downtown River Walk Hyatt Regency is located in the heart of the city's $6 million renovation and expansion of the scenic River Walk along the east bank of the Arkansas River. Our park contains a 400 foot long - 16 foot high waterwall, which is literally right in front of the Hyatt. Exploration Place Science Museum $62 million river front, hands-on science museum, scheduled to open in the March of 2000. Designed by renowned architect Moshe Safbie, featuring exhibits on natural phenomena, science, and mechanics of flight. It takes interactiveness to a new dimension. * Sedgwick County Zoo One of the finest zoos in North America, featuring a North American Prairie exhibit which offers the opportunity to look at grizzly bears, bison, elk, river otters, bald eagles, ond other animals that live on the Kansas prairie hundreds of years ago. Take a trip to the Jungle, South American Pampas, African Veldt, or Australian Outback. Wichita Boathouse and Arkansas River Foundation Located on the East Bank of the Arkansas River, The Boathouse features boat rides and rentals, exhibits, and banquet facilities. The racing yacht, Jayhawk, from Wichita native Bill Koch's 1992 America's Cup campaign, is on display. Wichita Greyhound Park Located 10 minutes north of Wichita on I-135 and exit number 16. Features pari-mutuel wagering year-round. Greyhound racing and simulcast thoroughbred horse racing. Matinee and evening performances rain or shine. Climate controlled grand stand. Wichita Wranglers Baseball Located at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, Maple and Sycamore right across the river from our Hyatt. Affiliated with the Kansas City Royals, this Class AA baseball team was the 1999 Texas League baseball champions. Season runs April through early September. Call for dates and times. Mid-American All-Indian Center (Indian Center Museum) Features a permanent collection that includes artifacts and paintings from Native American cultures throughout North America. Visit the Gallery of Nations Hall, a display of tribal flags, and learn about different Native American Nations. The Museum gift shop features authentic Indian at and crafts. Native Wichita Artist Blackbear Bosin's famous sculpture "Keeper of the Plains" stands on the grounds. Ice Sports Center Of Wichita This recently opened center offers public skating sessions as well as rink reservations. The facility includes one Olympic-size ice rink and one NHL-size rink, plus seating for 1,000 spectators. A restaurant and lounge overlooks the two rinks. Figure skating, learn-to-skate, summer season in-line roller skating, and youth and adult hockey league programs available. Wichita Symphony Orchestra The Wichita Symphony Orchestra perform annual presentations including classical Subscription Concerts, chamber music, pops and Young People's concerts at Century II. A special outdoor concert on Kennedy Plaza concludes the River Festival each May. The symphony's season runs September-May. Music Theater of Wichita and Other Performing Arts Performances of the Music Theater are held at Century II Concert Hall. Guest stars from Broadway and Hollywood combined with a resident company of more than 250 to produce 5 summer shows of exceptional quality and excitement. Shows staged June-August. Wichita River Festival Annual 10 day event in early May, located through downtown Wichita's River Walk...surroundng the Hyatt Regency Wichita. Activities include the Sundown Parade; balloon, bicycle, motorcross, autocross, ice speed skating, raft, and bathtub races; river run and walkfest; softball, hockey, volleybell, golf, and horseshoe tournaments; festival food courts stand all festival long; and numerous musical concerts. Historic Old Town Features over 200 businesses concentrated in 18 blocks, offering antique and specialty shops, home grown restaurants, and hosts over a dozen festivals and events during the year. Free parking and trolly car service is available. Wichita Art Museum The famed Murdock collection of American Art, including Mary Cassatt's "Mother and Child", the MC Naftzger collection of Charles M Russell works, a cildren's interactive gallery and sculpture deck ar among the culture attractions. Wichita Corporations Wichita is headqarters to major corprations including the regional headquarters for Boeing Wichita, Learjet Corp., Raytheon Aircraft, Koch Industries, Cessna Aircraft, Coleman Company, Wichita State University, Via Christi Hospital, Kansas Health Foundation, and home to several Kansas State Government Offices, plus the home of McConnell Airforce Base.
